Flowering algae in large quantities is an increasing global challenge due to eutrophication combined with global temperature increases. In the RAHIP-project, BrainBotics (DK) and RanMarine (NL) will demonstrate how an autonomous robot can be used to harvest the surplus of algae so it can be utilized for energy purposes and as a raw material. Today, resources are spent on collecting, handling and destroying algae which is a time-consuming and monotonous task. However, algae has a number of extremely positive properties, and over the past several years there has been a significant increase in the interest in algae as a component in several product chains - including as an energy source and as a raw material. The global market value is estimated at between $ 1 billion and $ 10 billion.
